Il sistema Myobrace® è un trattamento pre-ortodontico preventivo che si concentra sull'affrontare le cause sottostanti ai denti storti, spesso senza la necessità di sostegni o estrazione di denti, sbloccando la crescita naturale e lo sviluppo. Il trattamento è più adatto ai bambini dai 3 ai 15 anni e prevede l'utilizzo di una serie di apparecchi intraorali rimovibili che vengono indossati per 1-2 ore al giorno e nella notte durante il sonno.

Aspettare la comparsa dei denti permanenti per iniziare il trattamento con l'apparecchio può purtroppo portare a danni irreversibili che colpiscono non solo i denti, ma anche la salute generale e lo sviluppo del bambino.
Myobrace è progettato per affrontare queste abitudini mio-funzionali errate insegnando ai bambini a respirare attraverso il naso, mantenere una corretta posizione della lingua nel palato, deglutire correttamente e allargare le mascelle in modo che crescano fino a raggiungere la corretta dimensione.
Questo si traduce in sufficiente spazio per i denti, permettendogli così di crescere naturalmente dritti spesso senza la necessità di apparecchi.
Il sistema Myobrace è costituito da una serie di apparecchi intraorali che vengono indossati per 1-2 ore al giorno e nella notte durante il sonno. Gli apparecchi aiutano a correggere le cattive abitudini orali e a espandere la forma ad arco mentre esercitano leggere forze per allineare i denti e le mascelle. Vengono utilizzati diversi apparecchi a seconda dell'età del bambino e del tipo di problema ortodontico.
Inoltre, il programma di educazione dei pazienti, noto come Myobrace Activities, viene utilizzato per correggere ulteriormente le abitudini mio-funzionali che causano uno scorretto sviluppo dentale e mascellare.
Le attività devono essere eseguite due volte al giorno in aggiunta all'uso dell'apparecchio Myobrace® e consistono in una serie di esercizi di respirazione, deglutizione, che coinvolgono anche lingua, labbro e guancia.
Myobrace® treatment starts with the habit correction and works through a combination of three or more appliances to correct the causes of orthodontic problems and align the teeth as they grow into the mouth. Treatment can begin as soon as the poor myofunctional habits are recognised however, older children have had more time for the incorrect habits and wrong growth patterns to establish, which can require extra effort for a successful treatment outcome. With good compliance, excellent results can be achieved.
There are typically four stages of treatment with Myobrace® involving: habit correction, arch development, dental alignment and then retention.
The first stage of Myobrace® treatment is Habit Correction and it involves teaching the patient to breathe through the nose instead of the mouth, retraining the tongue to rest in the correct position, swallow the right way and keep the lips together when not eating or speaking. By focusing on correcting these oral habits that are causing crooked teeth and poor jaw growth, the child will have the best possible chance to grow their jaws to their proper and full size which allows the teeth to come in straight and often eliminates the need for braces later on.
Stage 3 – Dental Alignment
At the stage when the last of the permanent teeth are erupting, the Myobrace®for Teens is used to align the teeth into their natural position.
Due to the nature of removable appliances, compliance is essential. The Myobrace® appliances must be worn every day and overnight while sleeping. Patient co-operation and motivation is paramount when it comes to achieving optimal results. Depending on the child’s individual requirements and compliance, final alignment may involve treatment with braces.
If the teeth need further alignment, braces can still be used for a much shorter period of time which can be combined with the Myobrace® for Braces to provide optimal results.
Along with habit correction, additional arch development may be required to widen the upper jaw allowing sufficient space for the teeth and tongue. Children with underdeveloped jaws over 7 years of age can be recommended to use appliances and techniques in combination with The Myobrace®System such as the Biobloc or Farrell Bent Wire SystemTM (BWSTM) to achieve additional jaw development which will speed up the treatment process. The MyolayTM is suitable for the younger age groups and is used in conjunction the Myobrace®.

Retention is the final stage of Myobrace® treatment and aims to ensure good oral habits are maintained, often preventing the need to wear a permanent retainer or
wire for an extended period of time.
Once braces are removed a retainer is usually required to prevent relapse from occurring.
With good compliance and providing the correct oral habits are maintained, Myobrace® treatment allows for more stable orthodontic results and improved overall health.
Regular illnesses that may interfere with use of the Myobrace® appliance can seriously delay treatment and prevent a successful outcome. As well as aligning the teeth, jaws and improving facial development, Myobrace® pre-orthodontic treatment can provide additional health benefits by addressing issues relating to airway dysfunction as well as teaching children about good dietary habits, allowing them to reach their full genetic potential.
